Texas Operating Platform
How it works:
Multiple Texas state agencies and more than 100,000 state employees have moved to Microsoft Office365, a single operating platform that will provide consolidated email systems, access to Office applications, and shared calendars in a cloud-based system. Previously, there were more than 27 different email, word and data processing systems in use.
The platform is expected to improve the state’s communication and collaboration capabilities. Moving to a common platform is also anticipated to result in significant state savings in licensing fees, hardware, maintenance, energy and personnel costs.
Similarly, Hawaii aims to centrally provide services that are common across departments to reduce overall IT maintenance costs, improve IT services and capabilities, and streamline IT operations.
