In this episode of Transform Hawaii Government's (THG) Digital Talk Story series, Executive Director Christine Sakuda speaks with Georja Skinner, Chief Officer of the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism’s (DBEDT) Creative Industries Division. They talk about DBEDT’s work to support Hawaii's creative talent in our evolving digital world, the importance of technology in promoting resiliency for our communities, and how THG coalition members can lend their support.

The Creative Industries Division (CID) was established in 2003 to support the growth of the state’s creative and cultural sectors together and help diversify Hawaii's economy. CID oversees the development of local arts, culture, music, film, digital media and more with the goal of strengthening our local creatives.

During this Digital Talk Story, Skinner elaborated upon the breadth of activities that CID undertakes to support Hawaii's creative industry, and discussed the importance of combining creativity with technology to drive innovation. She is a champion of change and a strong advocate of transforming Hawaii to better support our creatives and achieve digital equity.

In addition to caring for the development of creative industries in Hawaii, Skinner also discussed the importance of government providing the structure necessary to support this industry and protect it through critical broadband infrastructure. Creative Industries also partners with local organizations to support their work and looks forward to continuing and expanding its collaboration with the community, non-profits, and business departments into 2022.

THG extends its appreciation to Georja for taking the time to join us for our Digital Talk Story series. To learn more about Creative Industries Division, visit https://cid.hawaii.gov and https://creativelab.hawaii.gov.
